This is Speaking From The Heart.

Joshua:

Welcome back to episode number nine of Speaking From the Heart.

Joshua:

Today we're going to talk about one of the last things as part of the introduction

Joshua:

of this podcast to the world that is really to the heart of what I really

Joshua:

want to share with you all, which is about the mission of Your Speaking Voice.

Joshua:

Now for many people, you might be instantly thinking: " Wait, is

Joshua:

this just about public speaking?"

Joshua:

I mean, yeah, I've done a lot of things in my life that have been involved

Joshua:

with public speaking, and I definitely would claim to say that I've started

Joshua:

this podcast as a result of all the training that I have received through

Joshua:

Toastmasters International, which we've heard a lot of different things about

Joshua:

that from some of my guests that I've already had on the show, but, the mission

Joshua:

of Your Speaking Voice is so much more than just public speaking training.

Joshua:

The mission, if you didn't know of Your Speaking Voice, is to transform our way

Joshua:

of engaging our voice in the ever-evolving world, and that is a mouthful in itself

Joshua:

because that opens the possibilities and the unlimited potential of so

Joshua:

many different aspects of our lives.

Joshua:

It isn't about what we are projecting as just our voice, but it's actually

Joshua:

talking about so much more than that and we want to explore a little bit of

Joshua:

this because it's so important to think about not just the things that we can

Joshua:

possibly do through our voice, which is definitely the technique that we use to

Joshua:

communicate with one another primarily, but it's about how we can unlock the

Joshua:

unlimited potential that lies dormant through the variety of different skills,

Joshua:

the different abilities, all the different types of aspects in our lives that share

Joshua:

the accumulation of this ultimate premise that we have, which is having tools at our

Joshua:

disposal to become something different.

Joshua:

Now, I get it, for some of you might be reading the transcripts of this

Joshua:

podcast because you are deaf, and I get it, because that means that one

Joshua:

of your tools is gone, but being deaf does not mean that you are taking a big

Joshua:

step back because you have enhancements with all these different types of other

Joshua:

tools that are at your disposal, all the other senses that are available to

Joshua:

you, and that's why it's so important to consider for the bigger picture of

Joshua:

this, that our voice isn't just about the verbal words that come out of our mouth.

Joshua:

It's about the different things that we're able to do through the non-verbal as well.

Joshua:

Let's break this down.

Joshua:

What is it to be having different varieties of voices?

Joshua:

Growing up as a kid, I know that I had all these different tools at my toolbox.

Joshua:

I was able to play sports.

Joshua:

I was able to study in school so that I could get good

Joshua:

grades and go on to college.

Joshua:

I was able to take extracurricular activities.

Joshua:

I was involved in the local student government.

Joshua:

I was involved with the Future Business Leaders of America.

Joshua:

I was involved with even the television production of the morning

Joshua:

announcements in which they had students, and I sat in the chair next

Joshua:

to a co-anchor and read the news; well, really the school announcements.

Joshua:

But the thing that we have to think about with all those different things that I had

Joshua:

growing up was the building blocks that got me to the point of where I am at now.

Joshua:

We can take all the cumulative experiences that we have lying inside

Joshua:

of ourselves and go in any unlimited amount of direction possible.

Joshua:

It's almost like when we're born, we're given a clean slate.

Joshua:

We're given an opportunity to always start from scratch.

Joshua:

That means it doesn't matter where you're at, where you come from, those

Joshua:

are the things that are given to you.

Joshua:

Now, there are wide variety of thoughts and agreements and maybe disagreements

Joshua:

pertaining to that position, whether that is for and against, but what I'm

Joshua:

specifically talking about is when we are starting out, we do not have

Joshua:

the coping skills necessary to deal with all the things like balancing

Joshua:

our checkbook, dealing with the things that are involved with washing our

Joshua:

clothes, maybe even preparing dinner.

Joshua:

We don't have those things.

Joshua:

We learn those things, so we grow and we evolve.

Joshua:

We have mentors, parents, especially, I know that you relate to this so much

Joshua:

because you take the time to build and grow and find these opportunities

Joshua:

for your kids to be able to explore and express themselves, and I salute

Joshua:

you being that I am single and have no children whatsoever, at least at the time

Joshua:

of this recording, but I know that for many of us, embracing those different

Joshua:

types of opportunities that we have in our lives doesn't necessarily mean

Joshua:

that they're going to come to fruition.

Joshua:

I thought for a longest time that I would be a very successful

Joshua:

medical doctor and a lawyer.

Joshua:

That's what my step-grandfather said to me growing up, and I remember those

Joshua:

voices over and over and over again.

Joshua:

When I go and visit and I listen to his words of wisdom, those would

Joshua:

always be the last words I would hear.

Joshua:

As I'm packing my bag as my parents are picking me up: "You're going

Joshua:

to be the most successful one in the whole entire family, Joshua."

Joshua:

Well, maybe I am.

Joshua:

Maybe I'm not.

Joshua:

I'll let you, the audience decide on that, and if you want to leave me feedback, I'll

Joshua:

certainly give you my email address, or you can even contact me in other means,

Joshua:

but that doesn't necessarily mean that I am the most successful for myself.

Joshua:

Our speaking voice isn't just about the potential of all those different

Joshua:

interactions that we have in our lives, which definitely have a profound

Joshua:

influence on the direction that we go, but it's about how we take those

Joshua:

things, how we modify them for our own liking, and we're able to move

Joshua:

forward in a variety of different ways.

Joshua:

That's the basic essence of it, but I know that some people get lost.

Joshua:

Those unlimited possibilities become: trouble.

Joshua:

Those are the things that often create: havoc.

Joshua:

Those are the aspects of our lives that become: overwhelming, and I know that

Joshua:

for many of us who are trying to figure out those aspects that fit into this big

Joshua:

giant puzzle piece that we call life, and we have different things that we do.

Joshua:

We have the personal and we have the professional development.

Joshua:

I know for the longest time, growing up, even myself, I had to go through

Joshua:

and think about what I really wanted, and then it became really overwhelming

Joshua:

for me and I had to seek help, and it isn't just the help that I'm specifically

Joshua:

talking about when it relates to career counseling, going into the high school

Joshua:

guidance counselor's office, as I did growing up, especially as the final years

Joshua:

of school were upon me, it was about the options that I had, and sometimes

Joshua:

being able to explore those options, knowing what our groundwork is when it

Joshua:

comes to that, is often very difficult.

Joshua:

I know, especially across the world, there are many different things that

Joshua:

we could potentially do to help achieve those successes, and sometimes it's about

Joshua:

not just seeing what we're capable of doing, meaning that we are able to foresee

Joshua:

in the future what that's all about, which there's plenty of career tools

Joshua:

and options available to you for those that are interested, that even as adults

Joshua:

you're able to check out, but it's about the things that sometimes we take a big

Joshua:

step back and ask ourselves, "how did I ever end up in something like this?"

Joshua:

I think a lot of people often think about, "Why did I end up in this job

Joshua:

where I have these conditions in my life that I'm really just not happy about?

Joshua:

Why am I stuck in a place where I know that I have better alternatives to

Joshua:

being able to see the bigger picture?"

Joshua:

I know that for many of us, we get stuck in that rut.

Joshua:

For me, I've been stuck in that rut several times throughout my life, and

Joshua:

it often means examining the bigger picture of what exactly is going on.

Joshua:

Trying to take as many thoughts and examinations as possible to see where I

Joshua:

could potentially go, but also weighing those against what my current status is.

Joshua:

Growing up, I never really had that much money to really do anything.

Joshua:

My parents really scrounged together to make ends meet.

Joshua:

Getting a video game was one of the biggest possibilities in my life,

Joshua:

and I know being a gamer growing up was something that brought great

Joshua:

joy of relaxation, removing myself from the world, but also seeing

Joshua:

the big picture when it comes to the unlimited possibilities.

Joshua:

Our mission, if we choose to accept it, is about continuously evolving the definition

Joshua:

of what we have at our disposal and being able to continuously grow and evolve and

Joshua:

examine what is out there, and I think that's why for many of us, sometimes

Joshua:

we don't get that time to just put the brakes on the car, get out and breathe.

Joshua:

Being a veteran of working in state government for several

Joshua:

years, I know how that feeling is.

Joshua:

Sometimes I would wake up and there would be days where I would work long

Joshua:

tireless hours not being compensated for it, and I know that sounds quite

Joshua:

outside the cliche or the stereotype of what some people think state government

Joshua:

employees or even other types of public sector employees are about, but those

Joshua:

are people that really care about helping others, and I was in that mindset as well.

Joshua:

Now, don't get me wrong, I do care because those are the things that even

Joshua:

to this day, I still continue to build myself on and learn some vastly great

Joshua:

experiences about the importance of generating opportunity for myself by

Joshua:

making professional connections and demonstrating where I can evolve, but

Joshua:

sometimes we're forced in this position that we have to always go into the

Joshua:

direction that we're being told to do, and that often is not what we want to do.

Joshua:

I am really thankful that I've had people in my life that have stopped me along

Joshua:

the way and say, this is what we are.

Joshua:

This is what we're capable of doing, and these are the things that were

Joshua:

potentially possible for all of us to go forward and examine how we can

Joshua:

take strides in the right direction.

Joshua:

Our speaking voice isn't necessarily about what we can articulate for vocal

Joshua:

variety and tone and pitch and messaging and creating the steps that are needed

Joshua:

to be able to have an introduction, body and conclusion, and have all the points

Joshua:

that supplement the main point and have a general and specific purpose, and being

Joshua:

able to share it all across the world.

Joshua:

It's so much more than that.

Joshua:

The nonverbal aspects are just as important as the verbal aspects, and

Joshua:

I even tell people that, when it comes to public speaking, that you have

Joshua:

to look at it at a holistic approach and take it at one step at a time.

Joshua:

There's no difference with what you could possibly do, not only in your

Joshua:

personal life, but also your professional life, when it comes to all the

Joshua:

values that you stand for and want to continue growing in as time moves on.

Joshua:

In previous episodes, we've talked about the values of Your Speaking

Joshua:

Voice and how those all intergrain into this big, massive picture.

Joshua:

It's allowing us to essentially represent the greatest opportunity, the greatest

Joshua:

vision of what a future self could be, and I know that for many of us

Joshua:

that can be very tough to do, but what we are able to do, by being able to

Joshua:

see that bigger picture, is start to map out what is potentially possible.

Joshua:

I know that for many of us being able to change in this world that is constantly

Joshua:

changing and it seems like there's always something every day that's changing

Joshua:

the framework of the overall foundation of our lives can be very stressful.

Joshua:

It can be very tempting to say, "I don't want anything to do with this."

Joshua:

It can also lead to drastic changes and isolation for that matter.

Joshua:

I like to call it ghosting, and many of us are familiar with that concept,

Joshua:

especially when it comes to being able to talk to people, have a physical and

Joshua:

emotional connection, and then all of a sudden when you're trying to do some

Joshua:

type of transaction, they're gone.

Joshua:

They disappeared.

Joshua:

They're nowhere to be found, and I know that for many of us that can

Joshua:

be very upsetting and it seems to be a trend that continues to grow,

Joshua:

especially with the advent of many of the communication tools that we have.

Joshua:

Instead of wanting to be connected, we want to be more disconnected because

Joshua:

we are overwhelmed more than ever before with the opportunities of this

Joshua:

technology that can forever change and scope out the ways in which we're able

Joshua:

to achieve our dreams and aspirations.

Joshua:

What if I told you that you can use those prudently?

Joshua:

What if I told you that you would be able to control what's ahead of you by being

Joshua:

able to harness the vast energies that were within you based on just the life

Joshua:

experiences that you have, along with the opportunities that are yet to come?

Joshua:

Finally, what if I were able to say that you would be able to walk away thinking

Joshua:

a whole, completely different perspective on the things that you had once thought

Joshua:

were creating some of those roadblocks?

Joshua:

For me, I had that problem for the longest time.

Joshua:

I let those roadblocks stop me from being able to see what I was able to accomplish.

Joshua:

I was limiting myself, and so many people would tell me,

Joshua:

"Josh, you know you can do this.

Joshua:

You have that ability, but I don't think you quite see it in yourself yet.

Joshua:

I really want you to see this for yourself because I know you are a good person.

Joshua:

I know that you can create so much value for yourself, but

Joshua:

you've got to give yourself grace.

Joshua:

You've got to give yourself love.

Joshua:

You've got to give yourself attention.

Joshua:

Don't keep pushing this away."

Joshua:

Those feelings along so many more are things that I continue to

Joshua:

say and do now in this moment.

Joshua:

Those moments can always change.

Joshua:

The things that we hear, the things that we absorb, the things that we try

Joshua:

to accomplish in our lives can often be difficult in seeing the bigger picture,

Joshua:

and that means too, taking a look at what is holding us back, what could

Joshua:

be holding us back, and what might be holding us back, which are all different

Joshua:

aspects of looking at the same problem.

Joshua:

Even if you don't think you have a problem, even if you think everything is

Joshua:

great in my life, things are fantastic, I could not ask for anything more, there's

Joshua:

always room for improvement, and it's all about changing that mindset and

Joshua:

seeing what is out there for the picking.

Joshua:

It's about unlocking what already lies within us.

Joshua:

It's already lying deep inside of us just waiting to be used.

Joshua:

We have to embrace those dormant qualities because when we do that, we can see more

Joshua:

fulfillment than ever before in our entire life, and if we can unlock that, if we can

Joshua:

do that through the variety of different tools that we have in our toolbox, nothing

Joshua:

is impossible for us to accomplish.

Joshua:

Even if you think that everything is fine, know that it's always great

Joshua:

to have a different perspective.

Joshua:

Continue the conversation.

Joshua:

See where, even if you are complacent where you're at now, how can you

Joshua:

take it to the next level by being able to see and give back to others.

Joshua:

It doesn't have to necessarily be for a profit.

Joshua:

It doesn't necessarily have to be out of some sort of service.

Joshua:

It can be out of so many different types of other opportunities that you have deep

Joshua:

inside that maybe others can benefit from.

Joshua:

Maybe we can create a teamwork, a population of people that are able to

Joshua:

see the greater mission that's in within ourselves, the greater humanity that

Joshua:

we have and that we commonly share, so that we are able to see how we can

Joshua:

accept it, not just for what it is, but what it could potentially become,

Joshua:

because let's face it, if it wasn't for the power of the Internet, I wouldn't

Joshua:

be talking to you today, because we all have the opportunities that we share

Joshua:

because we all want to be part of this great experiment of humanity and being

Joshua:

able to share and experience what lies ahead, and if you need that coaching,

Joshua:

if you need that support, if you need that perspective so that you can see

Joshua:

what is out there, there are people like myself, ready to surround you no

Joshua:

matter where you're at, at any time, and all you need to do is embrace what is

Joshua:

inside you, your voice, and in the world.
