Episode #166 - Harvesting The Power To Change & Help Mentor Others: An Interview With Darlene Sochin

The energy that we all exude is based on a number of different factors. One of the most important contributions is what we endure through life in order to bring presence, direction, and clarity as to what we are able to do to achieve our aspirations. What if those direction changes includes going through a life changing diagnosis that fundamentally changes the direction you are heading towards in life, making you pivot in a direction that is even more fulfilling? Today's guest, Darlene Sochin, owner of Indigo Healings & Mentoring, shares her story of triumph through an incredible medical diagnosis, and how she continued her Reiki journey to help others be mentored through purpose & direction with the energies they bring. Through Darlene's story, learn how to create a lasting change that starts with not only your thought process, but how you can influence tomorrow's generation with the choices, decisions, and attitude that can manifest a new reality for your life.

Intro:

Welcome to the podcast where relationships, confidence, and

2

:

determination all converge into

an amazing, heartfelt experience.

3

:

This is Speaking From The Heart.

4

:

Joshua: Welcome back to episode

number 166 of Speaking from the Heart.

5

:

Today, we have Darlene Sochin.

6

:

Darlene is a teacher, speaker,

intuitive guide, and an expert

7

:

parent and child empath facilitator.

8

:

Nineteen years ago, she and

her husband picked up and moved

9

:

from Boston to Portland, Oregon.

10

:

On the day they arrived, she

received a phone call that

11

:

confirmed that she had cancer.

12

:

Once the shock dissipated, she

was guided by her first angelic

13

:

encounter to Reiki energy healing.

14

:

During her first Reiki session,

she realized that her life

15

:

purpose was to help others heal.

16

:

Today, she is a Reiki master and

intuitive mentor for healers and empaths

17

:

seeking deeper connection to their

soul, and educate others with low self

18

:

esteem who doubt their beautiful gifts.

19

:

She loves to facilitate those who

desire to find their truth, their

20

:

path, their happiness by co-creating an

individualized program for their journey.

21

:

This is one of those episodes that

when you take a big step back, and you

22

:

think about everything that we've ever

talked about on this show, it all starts

23

:

to connect as to why these pieces of

the puzzle, especially when it comes

24

:

to our own lives, are so important.

25

:

Being able to heal, being able to

transform your life, being able to

26

:

build relationships, confidence, and

determination; if you didn't believe

27

:

that any other sort of individual on

our show hasn't covered that aspect,

28

:

or any of those aspects as a whole,

Darlene's story is the one that you

29

:

want to listen to today, because I think

her calling, especially when she starts

30

:

to explain the cancer diagnosis, how

it's impacted others, even for herself,

31

:

the connections that are happening in

her life that feed into those energy

32

:

patterns that surround us, start to

help us to intuitively understand,

33

:

which is something that we talk about,

as to how safety, security, love, and

34

:

appreciation all come together in this

journey of hope, courage, and fulfillment.

35

:

Expressing yourself doesn't always mean

that you have to fall into a certain

36

:

type of job or position, especially as

we talked about in last week's interview

37

:

episode with Rebecca Williamson, but

I think that in this story, you're

38

:

starting to learn a little bit more as

to how we can create better variety,

39

:

better expression, and better attitudes

with the things that we develop within

40

:

ourselves, to help others develop

within themselves the same thing.

41

:

But with that, let's go to the episode.

42

:

All right.

43

:

We're here with Darlene Sochin.

44

:

Darlene, thanks for sharing

your heart with us today.

45

:

Darlene: Oh!

46

:

It's a pleasure, and I'm

looking forward to it.

47

:

Joshua: I'm looking forward to it as

well, and I want to say thank you for

48

:

being part of this conversation, because

I've had Reiki experts on the show; those

49

:

that have practiced it, those that have

even ran their own businesses, and I'm

50

:

super excited to be talking with someone

else about their perspective, because

51

:

what I find about your perspective

is quite different from others is the

52

:

backstory, and I'm not going to spoil it.

53

:

I want to have you share it, so I

really want to start off with this

54

:

question is what got you involved

with Reiki in the first place?

55

:

Darlene: Well, it is an interesting

story if you're ready to hear it.

56

:

My husband and I moved from Boston to

Portland, Oregon in:

57

:

got here to Portland, I got a phone call

from my doctor and was told I had cancer,

58

:

and, you know, when you hear something,

and you're in shock, I was in shock for a

59

:

couple of days, and I had what they call

a spiritual awakening, and for people

60

:

who don't know what that is, in my room,

I was hiding under a desk, because I had

61

:

just been paralyzed with fear for a couple

days, and yes, the room filled with this

62

:

beautiful color purple, and no lie, there

were angels standing in front of me, and

63

:

they told me their names telepathically:

Gabriel, Michael and Raphael, and

64

:

they said, "You're going to be fine.

65

:

Just listen to your intuition;

that voice you hear in your head,

66

:

that feeling you get in your gut.

67

:

Follow it.

68

:

That's us helping you and supporting

you, and you'll know what to do.",

69

:

so the next day, I woke up, and

I listened to them immediately.

70

:

I had just this desire to get up and go

to the bookstore, and that's when Borders

71

:

was still around how many years ago?

72

:

That was 19 years ago.

73

:

This was 19 years ago.

74

:

Joshua: And I remember Borders very well,

so I understand this perspective, so-

75

:

Darlene: Joshua!

76

:

Yesterday was the day it happened.

77

:

Joshua: Wow.

78

:

Darlene: 19 years ago.

79

:

Joshua: For my listeners, we're

recording this in August, and obviously

80

:

coming out later, but I find that

perspective interesting that even the

81

:

energy surrounding this, and doing this

today to share this is fascinating to

82

:

me, but I didn't mean to interrupt.

83

:

Darlene: Beautiful.

84

:

Perfect, so I went to the

store, and I just let myself be

85

:

guided, which is interesting.

86

:

Yeah.

87

:

I'm not normally like that.

88

:

I let myself be guided and I

walked around the corner, and

89

:

it was the self help section.

90

:

I'm like, "Okay.

91

:

I've got plenty of time.

92

:

I can peruse with some self help.",

and I looked at the shelves and

93

:

on them were these books with

the title Reiki Hands On Healing.

94

:

There was about 10 of them or so.

95

:

I sat there all day, right there

in the aisle, and read all of them.

96

:

Had never heard of it

before, and I just knew.

97

:

I just knew that this was what I was

supposed to be doing, so this was even

98

:

before Google, so I got home, and it was

Ask Jeeves, if people remember way back

99

:

when I was looking for Reiki practitioners

where I was living, and there were three

100

:

people that had a website at that point.

101

:

Now, here in Portland, there's at least

250,000 people who have a Reiki website,

102

:

so at the time there were three people.

103

:

I immediately scratched off two of

them, and the one that I just loved,

104

:

I went and met her that weekend,

and started my Reiki sessions.

105

:

I started receiving them, and

I knew during my first session,

106

:

this is what I was supposed to

do with the rest of my life.

107

:

Joshua: Tell me a little bit about the

cancer diagnosis when you received it.

108

:

You said to us here that it seemed to be

a little bit of a shock when that kind of

109

:

occurred, and that's kind of what led you

into going to Reiki, but I'm wondering.

110

:

What was the initial reaction,

and what did that mean for you to

111

:

turn down this path as a result?

112

:

Darlene: It was really interesting,

so because it was 19 years ago, it

113

:

really doesn't feel- like I can't feel

the trauma that I felt at the time.

114

:

I can only recall it.

115

:

The anxiety I had, it was more about

making the arrangements to have the

116

:

surgery; like get this thing out of me,

and the stress, and the anxiety, and

117

:

the shock, it was more about something

is happening that is out of my control.

118

:

I had to call my previous employer

and jump on COBRA insurance, because

119

:

I was in a new place, and that was

my only option to get it covered

120

:

by insurance, so I called them.

121

:

They agreed.

122

:

I'd been there for many years,

and actually had to fly back to

123

:

Boston for both my surgeries,

and it was the wait time.

124

:

It was over a month while I waited

for all the doctors to get their shit

125

:

together and just waiting in that fear,

that was what was more the anxiety and

126

:

the nervousness than anything, so they

were pretty supportive, and understood

127

:

that we got this really quickly,

and that part wasn't what was scary.

128

:

It was the being out of control.

129

:

Joshua: So, in a way, Reiki helped

you, especially going through that

130

:

wait period, having that surgery done.

131

:

It was a way of calming yourself.

132

:

Darlene: And that's exactly what

the purpose behind receiving Reiki

133

:

sessions calms the body, and more

than anything I've ever done before,

134

:

because there's things like Qigong.

135

:

There's Tai Chi.

136

:

There's exercise.

137

:

There's walking.

138

:

Reiki is you lying

there, receiving healing.

139

:

You're receiving, rather than having to

do things, because even in meditation,

140

:

you're trying to quiet your mind.

141

:

It's you trying not to do something,

so the idea of Reiki healing in any

142

:

other healing modality, it's that

you get to lie there and receive,

143

:

and that is the stepping stone to

healing is you allow yourself to

144

:

receive, and that's the beauty of it.

145

:

Joshua: Was it hard to receive,

especially with listening to the

146

:

news that you're receiving, and

the patience that you had to have?

147

:

I mean, from somebody that has not been

through cancer, and I've had some people

148

:

in my life, obviously, go through that

process, and I know that treatments can

149

:

be enduring, especially if you have a

higher stage form, but I'm wondering.

150

:

Does it help you with a variety of

different aspects, for you personally,

151

:

when you were going through it?

152

:

You've been doing this a long

time, and I'm kind of- Yeah.

153

:

That 19 years is a very long time.

154

:

I have to commend you.

155

:

You even said it yourself.

156

:

You're one of the pioneers that has

started out with this, and a lot of people

157

:

jumped on as it gained in more popularity.

158

:

Even if you've seen other clients

that you've had that have gone

159

:

through this process as you had

with cancer, do you think that

160

:

your experiences have helped them?

161

:

Do you think that they've gotten

a lot more out of that experience

162

:

doing Reiki sessions with you

because of what you've been through?

163

:

What's your perspective on that?

164

:

Darlene: It definitely connects

to the people who choose me

165

:

as their Reiki practitioner.

166

:

They see something in what I

offer, and most people come

167

:

because they want to feel safe.

168

:

They want to feel like there's

someone that can hold them, and take

169

:

care of them, and that understands

them, so they would even tell me.

170

:

Most of my clients say they chose

me for those specific reasons.

171

:

"Your story was unbelievable."

172

:

"Your story touched my heart.",

is what most of my clients say.

173

:

Joshua: Leading up to that, you

said that you went to Borders.

174

:

You picked down this

self help book of Reiki.

175

:

You started learning about it.

176

:

What led you from turning into a

practicing amateur, which I'm just

177

:

going to call it that, to now doing

professionally, being able to go through

178

:

different certifications and even teaching

other people to facilitate a business?

179

:

How did that transition happen?

180

:

I'm sure myself and my listeners

would like to hear that.

181

:

Darlene: Well, I am a teacher.

182

:

That's what I did for a living my whole

life, so it just only felt natural that

183

:

from becoming a practitioner, which

I would do during my first session.

184

:

I set up saying, "I'm going to learn

how to do this for other people.", so

185

:

you learn to become a practitioner, and

then the next step, the third or fourth

186

:

step, is becoming the teacher; the

Reiki master, and there was no question.

187

:

That's what I would do, because I am

the teacher, and my philosophy is, and

188

:

I talked about this before I became a

teacher, I was the practitioner talking

189

:

with other healers, and they would

say, "People come to us to get healed.

190

:

People look to us to do the work.",

and I said, "Yeah, but you know what?

191

:

I want to teach them to

do their own healing.

192

:

I want to empower-" I didn't use the word

empower back in:

193

:

"I want to teach them

that they can do this too.

194

:

I don't want people to have to depend

on other people to heal.", so that was

195

:

my passion, and it is my mission to

this day that I teach people how to do

196

:

their own healing, and not to always

have to depend on other people for that.

197

:

Joshua: That's a perfect segue to kind of

dive into your business that you started,

198

:

so for my listeners, the business that

Darlene has is called Indigo Healings

199

:

and Mentoring, so Darlene, tell us a

little bit about not just what you offer

200

:

in the general sense, which obviously is

Reiki sessions, but tell us a little bit

201

:

about that aspect you just were speaking

about, which is helping others to be

202

:

empowered to take charge of that energy.

203

:

Darlene: Yeah.

204

:

I go deeper using the precepts of Reiki.

205

:

I teach something that's

called Japanese Reiki.

206

:

There's so many; there's a lot of

different lineages, and the one I teach

207

:

is a spiritual daily practice, and

the foundation of one's life- if you

208

:

have a daily practice, like you and

I had talked about before the show, a

209

:

daily routine of exercising and hiking,

and if you have something established

210

:

that you know you do every single day,

there's something healing just in that.

211

:

You're grounded in your life when you

have this practice, so Japanese Reiki

212

:

is about teaching this foundation from

which to live your life, and it changes

213

:

lives, and in my mentoring that I do, it

isn't always about Reiki, even though I

214

:

always bring Reiki into a conversation.

215

:

Sometimes people just

come for the mentoring.

216

:

They're an energy healer, or they're an

empath, which means they feel deeply.

217

:

They feel other people's feelings, and

I work with people who want to learn

218

:

about their gifts, and that's where

the mentoring part comes in, so I offer

219

:

sessions, and I also offer mentoring, and

sometimes it's in the same session, the

220

:

healing along with the mentoring, because

when something is healed, it surfaces and

221

:

then we talk through it, and we teach.

222

:

We co-create a plan, so I don't ever

just end a session with somebody.

223

:

At the end, we create a plan.

224

:

What are you going to do after this

session, and this is what intuitively

225

:

comes through for me as a channel,

and they are given the next step.

226

:

After this session, these are the

things that you can do if you want

227

:

to improve your life, what was

the reason you called me for the

228

:

session, and this is the next step.

229

:

Joshua: I love that, because you fit into

this model that even I do as a coach.

230

:

Now, I'm not a Reiki master.

231

:

I have never done any of the

level certifications, but I

232

:

feel that I do something similar

with just the traditional

233

:

practices of, "Let's set a goal."

234

:

"Let's make sure that you

hold yourself accountable."

235

:

"Let's create a plan around that.", so

you got me excited hearing that, because

236

:

I find that part of this story that we

all create isn't just about working with

237

:

someone else and being able to say, "Hey!

238

:

You're here.

239

:

Let me tell you about my day."

240

:

No, it's not just about that.

241

:

I want to strategize.

242

:

I want to be able to give you something

more, so I love that you incorporate

243

:

what the energy is around it, and

then build upon it, and Darlene, I've

244

:

had so many people in the show that

talk about that energy, being able to

245

:

use that for investigative purposes.

246

:

I've had people with healing properties

as you mentioned, but I love the

247

:

tack that you're taking, which again,

I'm losing it over here, folks.

248

:

It's just amazing to hear that, because

it's so empowering, so let's focus

249

:

on that for a second, so if I were

to come in, and I did have a Reiki

250

:

session with you, and I wanted to also

have that kind of accountability plan.

251

:

Let's just say that I'm going

through a rough patch in my life.

252

:

What would you recommend, even if it's

high level, you giving me this advice?

253

:

What would you give to your clients as

some of the takeaways that they feel

254

:

like they're empowering themselves?

255

:

Darlene: So, interesting is

my work is now mostly remote.

256

:

To some people, they say, "How

can you do an energy healing

257

:

remotely, and not in person?"

258

:

First, that's what I'll do.

259

:

I'll first explain that, and then

your other part of your question, so

260

:

Reiki is similar to the feeling of a

prayer, and I know many people can.

261

:

contest to that, or resonate with.

262

:

When you pray for someone, or when

you're being prayed for, if you tap

263

:

into that, you can actually feel the

presence of this love, and the first

264

:

time I experienced that it was when I

went to Boston to have my surgeries,

265

:

and my Reiki community that I had

started to create, were praying for me.

266

:

I felt them from Portland in Boston.

267

:

I was laying in the bed and I just

felt this warm sensation filled my

268

:

heart, and I was just filled with

love, so I do the healing sessions

269

:

remotely from that similar concept.

270

:

The first part is the mentoring.

271

:

We talk about, "Why did you call?

272

:

Why are you here?

273

:

What are you struggling with?", and the

questions that come through, as well as

274

:

the answers, it's all individualized.

275

:

It's all intuitive and I channel

this information from your energy.

276

:

Most of the time, what does come through

for people- it will look extremely

277

:

different for each client, however,

one of the strategies that always

278

:

shows up is, "Do you have a daily

spiritual practice?", because that is

279

:

the heart of a grounded centered life.

280

:

It's in that time- first of all,

you're committing to yourself.

281

:

You're prioritizing yourself, and

you're also connecting to yourself

282

:

on a deeper level than say, if your

self care is getting your nails done,

283

:

or going for a jog, or something.

284

:

When you have a daily spiritual

practice, you can sit with

285

:

yourself for a few minutes a day.

286

:

You just tune into your body.

287

:

I do body scans all day.

288

:

Where is there tension?

289

:

Breathe into it.

290

:

Release.

291

:

It's as simple as that, so when I say

spiritual, it doesn't have to be Buddha,

292

:

or God, or Jesus, or anything like that.

293

:

Spiritual just simply means you're

connecting with your soul, so I

294

:

don't want to have anybody turn

away because of the word spiritual.

295

:

It just means that you would like

to develop a deeper connection to

296

:

yourself, to your body, to your

mind, so that you can ask it, "What

297

:

do you feel like doing today?"

298

:

"What do you feel like eating today?"

299

:

"What do you feel connected to

today?", because when you're making

300

:

those bigger choices in life, you have

this daily connection to yourself.

301

:

Your decisions will be more clear.

302

:

You'll be more centered and

trusting of your choices,

303

:

because of this daily connection.

304

:

Joshua: I think it's a perfect segue,

because we were talking about, before

305

:

we started, of the empath focus that

you now have; the mission of that, and I

306

:

love the fact that you're incorporating

both adults and children, so when

307

:

people normally think of this process,

essentially some of what you just laid

308

:

out, children don't necessarily come to

mind right away, and another Reiki person

309

:

that I have in the show actually had

shared with me that there is a space for

310

:

that, but I'm curious of your perspective

on how children come into the fold of

311

:

this, so I'm wondering if you could

tie all those pieces together for us.

312

:

Darlene: Oh.

313

:

They have to, because they

are the future generation.

314

:

We have to give them all the tools

that they can use, and empowering them,

315

:

instead of them being afraid of the world.

316

:

I mean, it's a very unpredictable world

right now, and when I was a teacher, I

317

:

just saw how the system doesn't fit most

kids anymore, and I heard this on an

318

:

interview that you did with your guest.

319

:

The education system does not fit even us

anymore, and I was in school back in the

320

:

seventies, and it's even more outdated

now, and these children are being forced

321

:

to fit into a system that their bodies,

and their energy, and their excitement

322

:

about life, it doesn't fit into these

boxes, so the traditional way of helping,

323

:

and supporting them, is making them

adapt to our world when, really, what

324

:

we need to be doing is asking, "What do

they need?", and at least meeting them

325

:

halfway, and giving them more information,

like being more free about talking about

326

:

emotions, clearing your energy, the

things we run into when we're out in

327

:

the world, we don't even realize what

we're picking up, and thinking about,

328

:

and seeing, so we see what's going on

in our outer world, whether it's a car

329

:

accident, or something on the news.

330

:

That stays in our bodies that we hold

on to that, and if you can imagine a

331

:

four year old seeing a car accident,

or homeless people on the street, they

332

:

need something that will help them,

that will support them, emotionally, and

333

:

energetically, and help to empower them

to be in this crazy world that we live in,

334

:

and I work with the parents because they

come with their traumas, so the reason

335

:

I work with the parents is to help heal

them so they can see what their children

336

:

are seeing, so I give them this vision

of, "This is what your child is seeing.

337

:

What would you like them to see instead?

338

:

What tools would you like them

to have that you didn't have?"

339

:

That's my main goal.

340

:

As a child, I had zero skills, and saw

spirits, and ghosts, and I am now the

341

:

adult helping the parents to see through

my eyes, "This is what your children are

342

:

seeing.", and then I show the parents

what the children are seeing, so it's

343

:

like this mirror I give them, so my

main goal is to empower the parents

344

:

so that they can empower the children.

345

:

Again, like I would do with my clients,

I'm going to empower you so you can use

346

:

the tools for yourself, and that's my

goal is that parents have more answers

347

:

than they would get, whether it's

in the school system, or traditional

348

:

therapies, to help kids with a lot of

the issues we see, whether it's ADHD,

349

:

sensory integration issues, the spectrum.

350

:

There's a lot of words for what

children are experiencing right

351

:

now, and this is just some more

tools we can give them to thrive,

352

:

rather than just swallowing a pill.

353

:

This goes beyond that, so I always

tell people what I would love to

354

:

see is combining all the worlds,

combining all your options.

355

:

Give yourself options, and see how they

all can work together, whether it's

356

:

meant to integrate, and give the child

everything you possibly can to help them.

357

:

That's my view.

358

:

Joshua: Yeah, and I want to flip

that on its head for a moment,

359

:

because you said something that is

pretty profound, and I don't think

360

:

that even our culture thinks about.

361

:

Even with the dynamic of a parent

and a child, which we have let

362

:

school systems decide what is best,

and sometimes, the parents have

363

:

been left out of that equation.

364

:

To you, what makes you different

to be able to have that capacity

365

:

to say to children, to help

them, with their parents?

366

:

"Think of it this way."

367

:

" What other ways can you use your

energies for the betterment?",

368

:

because you're right.

369

:

There is a lot of negative energy that

I feel like is protruded into a variety

370

:

of different parts of our lives, and

regardless of what your stance is on a

371

:

variety of views, which is not really the

goal of this conversation at all, Darlene.

372

:

I don't want to trap you in anything.

373

:

What makes this an awesome opportunity

for someone to engage with you;

374

:

to see that other perspective?

375

:

You've been doing this, like

I said, for a very long time.

376

:

I'm sure you have a lot to share from

that, but what would you offer to a parent

377

:

and child more specifically, than say,

somebody else that's practicing this?

378

:

Darlene: That's a great question,

so the school system, obviously,

379

:

has the way they have to run things.

380

:

Children have to behave a certain way.

381

:

There has to be certain expectations

placed on them, and even talk therapy,

382

:

there's only so much that can be said and

done; you know, rules and regulations.

383

:

When a parent trusts me with being able

to read the energy of the child, and

384

:

being able to intuitively understand;

again, I channel what people are asking

385

:

for; what their soul is asking for,

and when a parent trusts me, it's the

386

:

biggest honor in the world, because

I do have my professional background.

387

:

I do have the master's degree and all

of that in my years of training as a

388

:

teacher, but I also have that intuitive,

energetic piece, where I can actually

389

:

tune in to the energy of the child, and

give that child- this is what a lot of

390

:

where in other places, I can give that

child that space of safety and say, "Here

391

:

in this room, here in this space, you

can feel free to talk about whatever you

392

:

want to talk about, and we will hold you.

393

:

We will love you and protect

you.", and it's this level of

394

:

safety and love and appreciation.

395

:

The children just open up in a way that

you don't see in other spaces and giving

396

:

them the opportunity to actually talk,

and then provide the information to the

397

:

parent, and it's an energetic connection

that can't be described in words.

398

:

It really is.

399

:

Joshua: Yeah.

400

:

Your answer to that strikes me in a

lot of different ways, because I think

401

:

about all the parents that struggle with

even identifying with their children,

402

:

because of the work that they do.

403

:

They might not see them very well

in terms of the obligations that

404

:

they have on a day to day basis.

405

:

There's many different schedules.

406

:

There's many different opportunities to

bond over weekends, but weekends aren't

407

:

good enough, so there's the time aspect.

408

:

There's the interpersonal connection.

409

:

There's just so many different variables,

and now that you say that, I love that

410

:

answer, because it isn't just about

the intuitiveness, in my perspective,

411

:

like you described, it's really about

building a relationship, and that

412

:

relationship, especially between a

parent and child, sometimes is damaged

413

:

by not only the things that might have

gone wrong, and it's not even anything

414

:

that the parent or the child did, but

it's just about being at peace; being

415

:

able to lie still, and using some of the

words that you described earlier with

416

:

your experiences, I could see how you

build those bridges, and I love that.

417

:

I don't think we do enough, because,

especially United States, I feel

418

:

that it's just so busy and we

sometimes need to learn how to pause.

419

:

I know I sometimes, even as

a coach, I need to learn how

420

:

to pause, so I love that.

421

:

Darlene: Yeah, like the

families are so busy.

422

:

They're going, and they're running, and

there's no time, especially if there's

423

:

more than one child, and my program that

I have set up for families is let's look

424

:

at your family's schedule, and create a

scenario where everybody involved can find

425

:

that space, so I help people look at their

family, and their calendar, and their

426

:

schedule, and take into consideration

that the child that's at hand, the

427

:

child that we're talking about, how can

we nurture that child in the space of

428

:

your family and your schedule, and I

sometimes work with parents, and sometimes

429

:

it's a couple of months before we even

get to the child, because there's all

430

:

these layers that they first have to go

through before they can even agree to

431

:

changing the lifestyle of the family.

432

:

It's multi layered.

433

:

Joshua: Darlene, we're almost at the

end of our time, but I have this one

434

:

final question before I give you the

opportunity to talk about your business,

435

:

and if people want to work with you,

which hearing this conversation,

436

:

I can't see why people wouldn't.

437

:

You bring so much variety

to this whole discussion.

438

:

As I've said, you've been

doing this for 19 years.

439

:

You have been through what I would

consider for many people a very

440

:

negative medical experience, which

it's only gotten worse for some people,

441

:

especially with a cancer diagnosis.

442

:

You have been to the other

side of that, and so much more.

443

:

I see you and your positivity, your

radiance comes through the camera lens,

444

:

although this is an audio only recording.

445

:

I tell you folks, I've been watching

Darlene the last half hour, and it's

446

:

just a radiation of happiness, and

positive focus, which I think that is

447

:

really important for somebody that if I

want to work with is really gifted in.

448

:

What has this meant for you in

terms of changing your life, and

449

:

what does it mean for you to keep

doing it even after all this time?

450

:

What's in it for you at this point?

451

:

Is there anything in it for you?

452

:

Is it about everybody else?

453

:

What is your mission now as

you continue to build out

454

:

your business and help others?

455

:

Darlene: Well, definitely, my mission

that keeps me up at night is helping

456

:

humanity become the best that it can, or

even go back to the way it used to be.

457

:

What the whole journey shared

with me was to become my own

458

:

advocate more than anything.

459

:

I was an empath.

460

:

I was so painfully shy to leave the house.

461

:

I hated school.

462

:

Just everything terrified me as a little

girl, and I was 37 when I had this

463

:

experience, and it wasn't until all of

this happened, I started to actually

464

:

find my voice, which is what you teach.

465

:

I found my voice at 37, because there

were choices and decisions being

466

:

made without me, or thinking, "Oh.

467

:

This is the best thing for you.", and

because I had started doing the Reiki,

468

:

and feeling into my soul, and connecting

with my body, my body started to say, "No!

469

:

No.

470

:

No.

471

:

No.", so the Reiki, and the cancer

diagnosis, it all came together, and

472

:

I started to feel what my no's were.

473

:

I started to feel what my yeses were.

474

:

I started to understand and connect

to what my soul was here to do, and

475

:

I'm a role model to be an advocate for

yourself, and now I empower parents, and

476

:

children, to be advocates for themselves.

477

:

Joshua: 37 must be the magic number

for our interview tonight, because

478

:

Darlene, what you don't know is that I'm

actually 37 years of age myself, so I

479

:

must be on the brink of a breakthrough,

because everything that you just

480

:

described is even for myself, I'm not

perfect, and I even working through to

481

:

so I love that that number has come up

tonight, and maybe that's a sign for

482

:

you to that you're doing all the right

things, but with that said, Darlene, I

483

:

want to give you the last few moments.

484

:

I would love for you to let my

listeners know about Indigo Healings

485

:

and Mentoring, how they can get in

contact with you if they want to contact

486

:

and book with you a potential session.

487

:

Maybe they want to work on some

goals as part of a Reiki session

488

:

like you were talking about earlier.

489

:

I would probably be even interested

myself just hearing all of this,

490

:

but with all that said, let us know

how they get in touch with you.

491

:

Maybe they can find you on social media.

492

:

I'm going to give you the last

few minutes to pitch yourself.

493

:

Go ahead.

494

:

Darlene: Okay.

495

:

Well, besides working with the children

and parents, I do help people who are

496

:

empaths who are sensitive to energy who

get a sense that they do have gifts that

497

:

they want to look into and explore their

intuitive gifts, so the healing and

498

:

mentoring sessions I offer, we dive into

that, and they're all very individualized,

499

:

so indigohealingsandmentoringpdx.com is my

website, and my Facebook personal profile.

500

:

I'm out there.

501

:

I'm honest.

502

:

I'm vulnerable.

503

:

I share.

504

:

I teach on my page, and I also have a

Facebook group I started for parents

505

:

called Parenting Empathic Children with

Darlene, so if you do have a child that

506

:

you're working with, I share regularly,

and I have programs for parents, and I

507

:

have programs for people just wanting

to get in touch with their souls.

508

:

That's the best way to reach me.

509

:

Joshua: I love that.

510

:

I love all those things that you are

doing, and I'm going to put all that in

511

:

the episode notes just in case anybody

is interested in reaching out even for

512

:

the website, even getting in touch with

you on your social media, but Darlene,

513

:

I just want to say to wrap this up.

514

:

I have found that in my life,

especially with all the ebbs and

515

:

flows, that sometimes we need to have

positive energies surrounding us.

516

:

I love the fact that even 19 years

ago, when nobody even knew about what

517

:

Reiki is, and even about what it meant

to go through that exercise that you

518

:

stuck with it, despite the number of

people that have also participated.

519

:

That means that you're part of a

community that you're helping to

520

:

inspire that generation to not only

help others, but to see the gifts

521

:

that they have inside themselves,

the energies, if you will, that they

522

:

might not even have unlocked yet.

523

:

I find that synergy so important

in our society today, and I

524

:

love the work that you're doing.

525

:

I love hearing this conversation today.

526

:

I'm super pumped just because of

everything that you've shared, and for

527

:

all those reasons, Darlene, thanks for

being on Speaking From The Heart today.

528

:

It was a privilege to talk to you.

529

:

Darlene: Thank you.

530

:

It was a huge pleasure.

531

:

Joshua: I want to thank Darlene again for

sharing her story, being able to have her

532

:

voice project into our lives, and letting

that energy not only manifest in the room

533

:

that you might be listening this to, or

even in your car, but allowing you and

534

:

me to get this expert guidance, quote

unquote, because as people go through

535

:

life, especially through difficult times

just like what Darlene had shared today,

536

:

you can see how that transformation

didn't let that hold her back.

537

:

She was able to use that to push herself

forward, but it was really about how

538

:

you get started, how you manifest

that energy to push yourself into

539

:

that direction just from the get go.

540

:

I think that with hearing about medical

issues, or hearing about something

541

:

that is really tough in someone's

life, surgery or any other sort of

542

:

life circumstance can be very tough.

543

:

Whether we think that we can receive the

healing, especially when we go through

544

:

something of this nature, and whether

we're able to get to the other side

545

:

to feel like we're safe, being able to

take care of ourselves, whether that's

546

:

through somebody else or even our own

devices, it sometimes is very tough.

547

:

We have to feel that transition that

is happening from being the way that

548

:

we were going through a nine to five

job, and going into a more free flowing

549

:

pattern, especially if we're on our own,

and the only person motivating ourselves

550

:

is us, we have to have that safeguard.

551

:

We have to have that motivation for

us to keep moving that needle forward,

552

:

and I think that that's what holds

some people back, amongst other

553

:

considerations, to being able to

push ourselves into that direction.

554

:

I think that transition that Darlene

went through, especially from being a

555

:

full time teacher, to be able to create

that satisfaction of doing what she

556

:

is, helping others find the healing

power of Reiki, which we've talked

557

:

about with a number of our guests on

the show, helps us to understand that

558

:

that practice, building that routine,

that spiritual daily practice that

559

:

we really can be doing, means that

we also have to invest in trust.

560

:

That trust of knowing that we're

going to get to where we want to get

561

:

to, even if we have that plan that

we need to work on with somebody

562

:

else, to keep moving that forward.

563

:

I think that we even learned today

about the fact that why are we here?

564

:

What is our calling?

565

:

Finding that intuition, that energy

perspective that allows us to breathe

566

:

into all these various areas: mind,

body, and soul, allows us to see then,

567

:

too, how we can be able to evolve, how

we're able to create connection, how we

568

:

feed all those energy systems to keep

on growing, and growing, and growing.

569

:

I know that for many of us,

we need to find that purpose.

570

:

We need to put that into practice,

and that oftentimes means we

571

:

have to take a big step back.

572

:

The daily connections, the things

that we feed into the energy that

573

:

we have surrounding us, growing

that all together means, in tandem,

574

:

we need to learn new skills.

575

:

We have to learn new abilities

and new practices that we have

576

:

to also put into time management.

577

:

Putting 30 minutes, an hour, two hours

a day, especially if we're really

578

:

intense about it, to be able to grow

into what we're ultimately able to

579

:

share, but it also means letting go of

the things that are negative in nature.

580

:

Cancer is not a pretty thing.

581

:

I'm known of many friends, I'm known

of many families, that have gone

582

:

through this terrible, terrible type of

thing, especially when it comes to the

583

:

cancer diagnosis, the treatment, the

chemotherapy, the different shifts of

584

:

energy, and realizing that we have to

build a better focus, a better attention

585

:

to what we have going on inside ourselves,

but also surrounding ourselves too.

586

:

That's where energy and

soul comes into play.

587

:

To be honest, I'm not quite surprised

by Darlene's choice, and it's only

588

:

because of listening to so many other

stories of how this shift happens in

589

:

people's lives, so that we can have that

safety, that security, having love and

590

:

appreciation from others, doing the good

work, but also being rewarded in return,

591

:

means that we have to find that space.

592

:

We have to get ourselves into that

bigger picture that we're trying to draw.

593

:

That means that journey of learning

how to speak, how to create engagement

594

:

with each other, all comes together

when we're able to say yes, and when

595

:

we're able to say no, to the various

things that are happening all around us.

596

:

How we become better, and how we explore

that variety of expression, means that

597

:

we have to keep on empathically learning

how we can make better decisions,

598

:

how we can make better choices.

599

:

I think Darlene today really shared in her

story how that happened, how that all laid

600

:

out, and it's easy to listen to so many of

these stories, but yet, at the same time,

601

:

ask yourself, "How would I ever be able to

manifest something like this of my own?"

602

:

I think that we need to take a great

big pause here to explain that each

603

:

of these stories, even Darlene's

today, is a way in which we're able to

604

:

transition our lives into a different

dimension, and it allows us to see

605

:

that there are multiple avenues to get

there, and Darlene's is no different.

606

:

She had great amounts of different things

happening in her life, realizing that if

607

:

she didn't make this choice, she would

have passed away from cancer, but she

608

:

refused, because she believed in what the

healing power of not only relationships,

609

:

confidence, determination, could do,

but also what the healing properties

610

:

of Reiki, the things that really help

us to build into that understanding of

611

:

how to create healing in our lives is

what made her get to that next step.

612

:

If you think that just sitting

back and listening to these stories

613

:

is going to help you change your

perspective, I hate to break the news

614

:

to you, but it's not exactly the case.

615

:

Sure.

616

:

Maybe Reiki, especially in what

Darlene has shared today, will give

617

:

you that first step, and maybe that

is something that will be of interest,

618

:

but how long will you stay with it?

619

:

30 days?

620

:

60 days?

621

:

90 days?

622

:

90 days?

623

:

I often ask myself that question because,

when I first started this podcast, this

624

:

was supposed to be for only 90 days.

625

:

That was it.

626

:

I wanted to see what it would look

like to just have this exposure,

627

:

but then I realized that after those

90 days, I fell in love with it.

628

:

It allowed me to intuitively understand

that if I wanted to grow my business,

629

:

if I wanted to grow myself, if I wanted

to help others create this relationship,

630

:

confidence, determination through

the voice that they have in this ever

631

:

evolving world, we needed to keep

on doing this show, and that's why,

632

:

even after 166 episodes, we are here.

633

:

We are present, and we're not going

away anytime soon, and that's the whole

634

:

deal is that we have to find that space,

especially what Darlene had to find is

635

:

that space, to move into that direction,

create that powerful presence in her

636

:

life so that she was able to grow and

speak with that engagement, so that she

637

:

could help others also find that voice.

638

:

It's not easy, and it means

that you have to dig deeper than

639

:

usually other people have to dig.

640

:

Some people often fall into it.

641

:

It just happens for them.

642

:

We've had many guests on the show that

have shared that kind of perspective, but

643

:

when medicine and energy come together,

it's been surprising to me to see how

644

:

much of the healing properties that we're

able to see through all these experiences.

645

:

Friends.

646

:

I know that it can be very easy for us

to listen to something like this today

647

:

and be very skeptical, but if you have

any inkling of the fact that Darlene

648

:

has lived a life that she's been able

to help others through her empathic

649

:

ability to be able to realize that cancer

wasn't going to stop her, but yet her

650

:

story was going to be able to empower

others, this is the living proof today.

651

:

Don't just sit there.

652

:

Give yourself that opportunity that even

when that shock of bad news comes over

653

:

you, whether that is something medically

related, whether that is losing your

654

:

job, whether it is somebody that has

walked away because they didn't agree

655

:

with a certain stance that you had.

656

:

It's all about understanding each other.

657

:

It's about understanding ourselves.

658

:

Giving us that grace to be able to become

not only the best version of ourselves,

659

:

but also learning how we can give

ourselves habits that are life changing,

660

:

ever evolving, and habit forming, that

remove the negative energy, and feed into

661

:

our energy systems that empower us to

be able to live the happiest of lives,

662

:

just like our guest has done today.

663

:

Journeys are not easy.

664

:

Journeys might be difficult, but if you

keep asking yourself why you're here?

665

:

What is your calling?

666

:

One day, the answer to that question

will come, and it will be surprising

667

:

to you to see what you might be able

to uncover, what you will be able to

668

:

unearth, as a result of that awesome

experience that you're living, which

669

:

is the grand adventure of life.

670

:

The energy of expert guidance not only

comes from different practices such as

671

:

Reiki, but understanding that when you

have an open mind and open heart, and

672

:

you're willing to accept new ideas and

new challenges, nothing is impossible.

673

:

No matter what you might have to defeat,

no matter what you might have to overcome

674

:

in life, whether it is something like

cancer, just know that there are people

675

:

out there that are rooting for you to

win the race, to win the battle, and

676

:

be able to go on to create that plan

that not only helps others, but don't

677

:

forget to help yourself be that best

version that you never thought possible.
